Canterbury Champs 2026

PAPO will be hosting the 2026 Canterbury Champs in March 2026 on the Mt Cass map (created for NZOC 2025).

  • Sat 21st March - Canty Champs Middle Distance. Mt Cass.
  • Sun 22nd March - Canty Champs Long Distance. Mt Cass.

Standard entries close Monday 9th March. Final date for entries is Monday 16th March.
All entries must be paid for using Credit Card payments in the entry system (EnterO).

If you need to change anything on your entry (SI number, grade entered, race withdrawal), please fill out the <Canty Champs 2026 change form> prior to entries closing (Mon 16th March.

Event Fees:

Standard event fees: Available until Monday 9th March.

Member fees are available to members of any orienteering club in the world.

Family Maximum (all races)

  $200.00

Non-Members: additional $10 Senior/$5 Junior per race.

* Family maximum for 2 Seniors and any number of Juniors normally resident at the same address.
For team entries, please create an individual entry for each team member. 
SI hire: Regular SI cards $2 per race, SI Air+ $5 per race.

Late entry fees:

From Tuesday 10th March to Monday 16th March, we will accept late entries at +50% of fees above
Final date for entry is Monday 16th March, no entries will be accepted after this date.

Payments:

Payment is by credit card only. Credit card payments will be taken as part of the entry process. 

Refund Policy: 

  • Refund of 90% of fees paid for withdrawals prior to standard entry fee close date (Mon 9th March).
  • Refund of 75% of fees paid  for withdrawals after standard entry fee date and before late entry close date (Mon 16th March).
  • No refund after Late entry close date.
  • To notify withdrawal from a race, fill out <Canty Champs 2026 change form> prior to entries closing (Mon 16th March). 
  • Refunds will be processed after the event.

Competitive grades:
Grades are in 2-year bands up to age 18 and in 10-year bands for over 40s.

Recreational grades:

For those that want an easier navigational challenge or shorter course than the competitive grade.
Or for those going as a team or juniors being shadowed by parents.

There will be five recreational courses available:

If you have not run a red course before, we recommended you do not try your first red course at this event as the maps and courses are very technical. 
If you wish to change grade after entry but before final entries have closed, fill out <Canty Champs 2026 change form> prior to entries closing (Mon 16th March).
After this date, only changes to the recreational grades may be made in person at the event. 

Start times:

Start times for both events will be allocated and published prior to the events. Earliest start is 10.30am for the Long and Middle distance.
For start time requests (e.g. for parents sharing childcare duties), please fill out <Canty Champs 2026 change form> prior to entries closing (Mon 16th March).

Punching system

The SportIdent (SI) punching system will be used in all  events with Si Air+ enabled.
SI hire: Regular SI: $2 per event, SI Air+ cards $5 per event.  

Camping

There will not be any PAPO organised camping for this weekend. Glenmark Reserve is close to the events for those wishing to camp nearby.
